Live Cured Bud
Talking Points for Managers/AGMS educating Budtenders (Not to be distributed beyond Ms/AGMs)
- Firstly, for naming conventions, this product is called Live Cured Bud. Avoid using the word “cryo” with customers.
- Point 1 (per Alex): This bud is different, but since we aren’t sure what the reaction will be from guests, refrain from positioning LCB as better than our regular flower
- Point 2: That said, it is a unique offering in the market. Typically, our flower is trimmed, dried and then cured. LCB is harvested and then immediately live-cured, which better preserves the plant profile. The process is called lyophilisation (aka freeze-drying).
- Point 3: True to its name, this flower is considered live cured because of how the freeze-drying process works. Going directly from harvest to live cure captures more live terpenes, cannabinoids and other key plant attributes that are often lost during traditional drying and curing. The end result is flower/buds that more fully reflect the plant’s original profile, structure and shape.
- Point 4: Once ground up, the flower will be a bit sticky and somewhere between a typical smoking pie and a dabbing pie. Thanks to the live curing, you’ll get a fresher taste at consumption. Additionally, the flower will produce large, dense clouds, but again, it won’t be as harsh on the respiratory system.
- Point 5 (potential key selling point): This flower is best suited for packing bowls. Given its consistency, you can get tight, even bowl packs. Once exposed to flame, the flower will burn quickly and evenly. If you love bong rips with big, dense clouds, this is the flower for you. We strongly encourage guests to consume LCB using water pipes/bongs, traditional glass bowls, chillums/one- hitters or dry herb vaporizers. If people ask specifically about rolling joints, it’s best to mix LCB with some of our regular flower to offset the rolling difficulty caused by the stickiness.

This also results in nugs that more fully reflect the plant’s original profile and structure. (looks better, tastes better)
- HOW (does the process work): Live Cured Bud is harvested and then immediately cryogenically live-cured, aka freeze drying.
- MORE DETAIL FOR BUDTENDER BACKGROUND: Typically, our flower is trimmed, dried and then cured. Live Cured Bud is harvested and then immediately cryogenically live-cured, which better preserves the plant profile. The process is called lyophilisation (LIE-o-FIL-i-SAY-shun). Questions You Might Get From Guests
- Why is it more expensive than your regular flower? Is it stronger?
- Well, it’s a unique product in the market. It takes longer to cure and process this way, but we are capturing more of the live terpenes and key plant attributes immediately after harvest. It may not increase the potency, but it more effectively captures the plant’s original terpene/cannabinoid profile.
- Why would you go right from harvest to curing? Doesn’t that make it worse?
- This process was refined over the course of the past year by our award-winning lab team. We have a special machine specifically designed to live-cure flower in this fashion immediately after harvest. Freshness packs keep the flower happy while it’s in the jar, and the buds you take home will better retain their original size and shape.
- Why does it smell weird? (they probably won’t ask this off the top since they can’t open the jar in-store, but just in case they come back and ask further questions)
- It still smells like cannabis, just not the usual odor you’d expect. That has no bearing on the quality of the bud or the smoke you’re inhaling, and in fact, the taste will be a bit fresher.
- What should I expect once I grind it up?
- As described by our lab manager, the ground product is somewhere between a smoking pie and a dabbing pie. You may find it to be a bit sticky, but have no fear–that’ll make it easier to pack.
- What’s the best way to consume this product?
- LCB is ideal for packing a bowl. Due to the consistency, you’ll get a tight, even pack. It burns quickly and evenly, producing big, dense clouds that won’t fry your throat.
- I only roll joints and don’t own a single piece of glass. Can I still buy this?
- Of course you can. For an easier time rolling, we suggest mixing in a bit of our traditional bud with your LCB when rolling a joint. You’ll find the consistency of the bud makes it a bit difficult to roll, but you should be fine if you mix in a bit of regular product.
- What makes this different from your regular flower?
- All the best cannabis flower has been cured, but the manner in which we live-cure LCB is what makes it unique. This helps us capture more live terps and key plant attributes, which in turn produces a bud that’s truer to the original plant profile. Terpenes and cannabinoids are what give each strain its unique effect, so having more of those retained/fully expressed is vital to a good nug.
- Can I use this in a dry herb vaporizer (like the old Paxx or Atomic 9)?
- Yes! In fact, thanks to the easy burn, LCB is well-suited for consumption using dry herb vaporizers. Grind it as you would any other cannabis flower and enjoy!
Remember, everyone’s an expert on everything. People will tell you why this bud is bad, the process is wrong, the price is too high, etc. (like they do with every flower on the market) with zero frame of reference or experience growing/curing cannabis. Just be polite and don’t get in the weeds (no pun) with the haters; if they don’t want it, sell them something else. Focus the time and energy on folks who are genuinely interested and not speaking to you in bad faith.

Bringing something a little different to the table for consumers and patients who love nothing more than packing a bowl, Sanctuary is excited to debut our Live Cured Bud here in the Massachusetts market. Created by our outstanding lab team, Live Cured Bud differs from traditional flower thanks to an ingenious alteration to the plant’s curing process.
To create Live Cured Bud, we harvest the best flower from select strains grown in-house. Almost immediately, the buds are cryogenically cured to preserve as many of the live terpenes and cannabinoids as possible. That’s where the phrase “live cured originates; the lyophilisation process captures as many key plant attributes as possible at the point of harvest, which in turn helps the bud better retain its original structure and shape. This also delivers a fresher taste at consumption. The result, once taken home and ground up, is described by our lab manager as a cross between a smoking pie and a dabbing pie.
The consistency of ground Live Cured Bud best lends itself to consumption in pipes and bongs because it’s easy to achieve an even, tight bowl pack. Once exposed to flame, the flower will burn quickly but smoothly, producing dense, sizable clouds that can be inhaled with ease. Water-filtered pipes and bongs are best, but you can achieve the same results with a smaller bowl, one-hitter or chillum. The qualities that make Live Cured Bud ideal for bong rips also give it great efficacy when consumed using dry herb vaporizers.
Live Cured Bud is now available at all Sanctuary locations in Massachusetts. If you’re looking to switch up your flower game or still trying to find the perfect flower for your dream bowl, stop by Sanctuary and ask our budtenders about Live Cured Bud!
